To Every Thing, a Season, and Time for Every Purpose

Ecclesiastes 3:1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the Heaven:

Ecclesiastes 3:11 He hath made every thing beautiful in His time: also He hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.

Ecclesiastes 3:14 I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be for ever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before Him.

Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose.

People are often asked; do you know your purpose? Why are you here? What are you supposed to do? There are claims that if you find your purpose, you will have truly found the secret of success and real joy in life.

Our ultimate purpose in being here is to serve God and in doing so, God gives us different ways of serving Him. As such, a person may have more than one purpose throughout their life because God is not limited to having a person do just one thing. Your purpose at 20 may be different than your purpose at 40, 50, 60, or even 90 and 100 years old like Sarah and Abraham!

Also, every thing has a season. There are seasons of loss and seasons of gain, seasons of drought and seasons of abundance, and many more seasons that we go through in life. One thing is for sure, every purpose is God’s purpose for us to carry out and just as every thing has a season, there is a God-appointed time for every purpose. Only God knows the details for every purpose and the timing, and He will reveal them in His time.

It’s fine to focus on one purpose in life if God has called you to do that one thing. However, we must always stay open to God changing our direction, and putting us on a new path, for a new purpose. God doesn’t want us to get so attached to that one thing, until we can’t hear His voice, or see His signs when it’s time to move on to our next purpose. A person can spend their entire life in search of that one thing, when God may have more than one thing, or many things for them to do. Sometimes God graduates us to different purposes based upon one big purpose. And other times, the purposes may be completely different. But rest assured, whether the same or different, every purpose is connected to all bring glory and honor to God.

Prayer:

Dear Father God,

Thank You Lord for every season you have blessed me to go through in my life. And Lord with complete humility thank You that my life has meaning and purpose because of You. Lord sometimes it seems challenging to know exactly what Your purpose is for my life at various stages of my life. Please help me Lord by Your Holy Spirit to hear Your voice clearly in revealing Your purpose or purposes for my life. I know that my ultimate purpose is to serve You and Lord I submit all of me to Your will- my mind, body, spirt, and soul. Lord, I delight to do Your will. And I ask that You also give me patience to accept Your timing to carry out Your purpose. I love You Lord.

In Jesus name I pray,

Amen
