Ephesians 4:6
One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.
Isaiah 64:8
But now, O LORD, Thou art our father; we are the clay, and Thou our potter; and we all are the work of Thy hand.
2 Corinthians 6:17
Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,
2 Corinthians 6:18
And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.
Have you ever wondered why we celebrate Father’s Day? Well, this decades old holiday was first celebrated in 1910 after a "renegade" named Sonora Smart Dodd wanted to celebrate her father, as well as all fathers everywhere. The holiday became an official holiday in 1972, now generating an estimated $1billion per year in spending.
Father’s Day celebrates those who are fathers by blood, adoption, through marriage, pseudo fathers who are just like fathers, and even those who are fathers to their animals. These fathers are honored with gifts, breakfast, brunch, dinners, and/or various activities. But, as we take time to celebrate the fathers in our lives today, we need to be mindful to celebrate our main Father, The Everlasting Father, The Lord God Almighty.
Just as a good father does, our Heavenly Father provides for His children, watches over them, protects them, loves them, disciplines them, and helps them to grow and be the best that they can be by sacrificing for them. In fact, the Heavenly Father did what no one else could do by sacrificing His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die for our sins so that we can have eternal salvation. What love.
So, although we should celebrate and honor our Heavenly Father every day, as you celebrate Father’s Day today, above all give God the glory, honor, and reverence that He’s due. Tell Him how much you love and appreciate Him for just being God. Thank and celebrate Him for waking you and your family up this morning. Thank and celebrate Him for being your Protector and your Provider. Thank and celebrate Him for being your Healer, your Waymaker, your Confidante, your Fixer, and your Comforter. And tell others of His goodness. But more than anything, thank and celebrate the Lord by first making sure that you have a committed personal relationship with Him. This is what pleases our Heavenly Father the most.
Today is a great day to start a relationship with your Heavenly Father. Today is a great day to renew your relationship with your Heavenly Father. Today is a great day to strengthen your relationship with your Heavenly Father. Today is a great day to look for new ways to honor, celebrate, and grow your relationship with the best Father ever, your Heavenly Father who loves you like no other.
Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father,
Thank You Lord for this day to honor the fathers in our lives, those present and those who have passed on. Lord, but most of all, thank You for the opportunity to celebrate You for being our Heavenly Father, and for Your goodness, Your lovingkindness, and for Your unparalleled divine love, mercy, and grace. Lord, we pray that those who don't know You personally as their Heavenly Father will take that step today and enter into a committed relationship with You, changing their lives forever for the better. Lord we also pray for those who have lost their way to renew their relationship with You, and for those who are in a committed relationship with You to seek new ways to serve, honor, and glorify You. And Lord we pray for those whose fathers have passed on. We pray that You will comfort them on today and give them peace as only You can. We celebrate You Heavenly Father on today and every day because You are so worthy. Happy Father’s Day to You, our Heavenly Father and King.
In Jesus most holy and precious name we pray, we love You Lord,
Amen
